A Hundred Billion Bottles Washed Up On The Shore
Various minor difficulties and life events (some good, some bad/sad, some ugly) have kept me otherwise occupied since standing as a(n amateur) candidate at the 2024 General Election. I have used this somewhat externally enforced pause to ponder how to contribute amongst what has been a quasi-Cantabrian Cambrian Explosion of amateur and semi-pro scribblings.
What do I mean? Approximately five years ago – when everything went haywire – there was a dearth of rational content in the public domain. The search for non-mainstream commentary brought together a ‘band of siblings’ from all walks of life. Despite having been aware of Jefferson’s principle that ‘the price of freedom is eternal vigilance’, some (including me) had only just been jolted out of our complacency. Others had been professional cynics – their hearts very much in it – for many a year. Common cause was found by these lockdown sceptics (at least for a time) as we looked to challenge what I initially assumed was just a gigantic misunderstanding, a collective delusion of the highest order (as became obvious, while it turns out to have been a bit more complicated than that, it was also ever thus… I’ll come back to this point at a later date).
This above-mentioned common cause has now become more of a confused cacophony, and while I think that some truth is out there and can be found by following certain (usually amateur) writers, some of these voices in the desert have managed to metaphorically lose their heads.
I have previously outlined how some of my own contributions came about from what might euphemistically be referred to as a ‘standing start’ (i.e. from nowhere, c.f. the aforementioned complacency). It was certainly not part of any plan! As cathartic as it has been to write about countless topics for different audiences via different publishers, both anonymously and in my own name – none of this for any sort of remuneration – the obvious question is what is the point? Is there anything new under the sun? The human condition is what it is.
Over and above this Ecclesiastical train of thought, can’t others do it better? Stick to your own knitting. Let others slug it out, you’ve done your bit. Certainly there is much to be gained from prioritising my nearest and dearest, and spending as much time with them as possible, especially with the somewhat unthinkable prospect of the younger ones fleeing the nest as they grow up.
And yet…
That just feels like giving up. There is too much fascinating and intriguing subject matter to just let slip through fingers that are itching to write. Yes, much has been (and will be) covered elsewhere, but not all of it.
It is time to revive the transmission.
The aim is to focus on several areas, and perhaps attempt to bring a modicum of organisation to the confused cacophony. Topics to be covered will be as follows, attempting to collate and bring order where previous articles have been either scattergun or overly led by events:
The absurd witch hunt against greenhouse gases, which has been a major topic of mine in recent years. This will provide an opportunity to link to some of my recent collaborations with other ‘Net Zero Truthers’ such as John Sullivan, including recently published articles;
The coronapanic debacle – reviewing previous articles and lessons learned, as well as an opportunity to catalogue my (previously) anonymous articles for the HART Group (also on Substack). I would like to more formally backtest some of my original arguments and reasoning (i.e. revisit and check what I got wrong), and pull together various curious strands where connections might otherwise go unnoticed.
Other more general review and exploratory articles, though it must be noted that it is hard to break the mould and introduce topics that involve significant paradigm shifts: however much we might wish for free, open and challenging discourse, the blowback I have had merely for questioning widely held ‘socially acceptable’ beliefs (climate change, the coronapanic debacle) should be adequate demonstration of how public discourse self-regulates itself in unhealthy ways. And that’s before we get to the actual censorship. But we have to start somewhere.
On all these topics, I am going to attempt to curate a set of links to writers that have – in my humblest of opinions, which may of course be wrong or misguided – managed to document matters satisfactorily and honestly, while also (hopefully) pointing at truths that have been covered up (and often remain so). To that end I have updated my Substack recommendations, and I will attempt to keep this refreshed as appropriate. Any feedback is very welcome.
It is good to be writing again.
